Art History I is a one-semester full-time course, required of discipuli in Class IV. The course provides an understanding of the formal and contextual methods of identifying, interpreting, and evaluating ideas in Art History. It introduces discipuli chronologically to major themes, movements, and issues in Art History from prehistoric times through the Roman Empire. Areas covered include the functions of art, the visual elements and principles of design, the styles of art, and the art object.
Assessments throughout the year include seminar, analyzing works of art, interim and final assessments. Interim and final assessments consist of short response and extended writing formats.
Discipuli are expected to:
• Participate in Socratic Seminars
• Conduct writing assignments such as papers and Analyzing a Work of Art Worksheets
